Heart Rate Info

The heart is a muscular organ that functions as the central part of the circulatory system, pushing blood throughout the body. With each beat, it pumps blood containing oxygen and nutrients to the body's tissues and returns waste products. A healthy heart supplies the appropriate amount of blood at a rate proportional to the body's activity level.

Resting heart rates can vary between individuals. Heart rates are lower at rest and increase during exercise, influenced by factors such as weather, body position, emotions, body size, medication, and the consumption of caffeine and nicotine.

At rest, a fast heart rate may indicate acute health conditions such as infection, dehydration, stress, anxiety, thyroid disorder, shock, anaemia, or certain heart conditions. It can also predict long-term cardiovascular risk. Conversely, a low heart rate is common in people who exercise regularly and participate in athletics.

Monitoring heart rate can provide insights into fitness levels, heart health, and emotional well-being. For individuals on cardiovascular medication, daily heart rate measurements can help doctors recommend the appropriate course of treatment.
